During this talk, Chloe and Amberlei will share their experiences writing blogs for the Duck Trousers, Straw Bonnets, and Bluey Exhibition: Stories of fabrics and clothing in Tasmania now showing at 91 Murray Street. The blogs were written to compliment the story walls of the exhibition to explore some of the fascinating and unknown stories of Tasmania’s history of manufacturing, clothing, and fabric in greater depth. What eventuated in their blogs was the tale of a formidable woman amidst the context of the often-patriarchal convict era, and the story of the success and misfortunes of Tasmania’s woollen industry and its key players. Amberlei and Chloe will provide insight into their research methods and writing processes while also emphasising the importance of telling stories from the past. It is hoped that those who attend the talk will come away with a greater understanding of how to go about researching and writing their family history.
