The Ryerson Index has been on the web for more than 22 years, providing a simple method for locating a published death (or similar) notice in Australian newspapers.

John will give a very brief rundown on the origins of the Index, followed by a demonstration of some of the little-known features of the website.

He will then expand on the future of Ryerson Index in an environment where newspapers as we currently know them appear to be on the road to extinction.

Our presenter: John Graham

John Graham has been actively involved in genealogy since starting to research his own family in 1975. His interests subsequently expanded to embrace local history, in particular the area of the South Coast of NSW centred on the town of Gerringong. He has written five books on aspects of local history of the area, and co-authored a sixth with Joanne Marsh.

From 1998 until 2005, John was head of the Sydney Dead Persons Society (DPS), during which time the DPS founded the Ryerson Index. He is currently President of Ryerson Index Inc.

John is a life member of Gerringong Historical Society, and a member of Shoalhaven Family History Society and Richmond-Tweed Family History Society.
