A year ago, we discovered ‘Esther’ – a few lines in a child’s hand, carefully written into the pages of a whaler’s logbook. Since then, bit by bit, Esther’s story has come together, along with the astonishing story of the other women in her life, from her seafaring Aunt Charlotte to her independent mother. This story will take you from the South Seas to a small shop in North Hobart, from the Cascades Female Factory to a Launceston pharmacy, and from Tasmania to the other end of the world. Join us for the talk or follow along on our companion blogs (there will be three of them!) and find out how you can extend the story yourself.
