Welcome to the new Australian National Family History Month website. NFHM is an initiative of AFFHO (Australasian Federation of Family History Organisations) to promote family history and genealogy in Australia and New Zealand.
NFHM started in 2006, originally in Australia only the first week of August but from 2013 it has been the entire month of August. After 10 years of the same website we thought it was time for a new look. On this site you can see what events are happening across Australia including online events during August plus news updates. Our Australia NFHM Facebook page is another way of keeping up to date.
Why not encourage your local genealogy/family history society or council library to be part of NFHM by entering their August genealogy/family history events into the NFHM web calendar. It is a simple matter to register and enter your events. It is a great way to let others know what you are doing and societies may even gain some new members.
Our 2019 Major Sponsors (in alphabetical order, to be confirmed) are Ancestry, FindersCafe, Findmypast, Momento and MyHeritage. The National Archives of Australia is our launch sponsor, something they have been doing since 2006. We thank all of our major sponsors for supporting NFHM so that we can make August simply the best month for genealogy and family history research.
In addition we have some great prize sponsors again this year. Entry to the prize giveaway starts on 1 August and not before, so no earlybirds please! Remember to read the Terms and Conditions on the Sponsors page when you check out what prizes are on offer in 2019. Genealogy/family history societies who enter their events into the NFHM web calendar are also entered into the societies prizes giveaway. There is an earlybird prize for societies who enter events before 30 June. More detail is on the Sponsors page.
For what is happening in New Zealand, visit the New Zealand Society of Genealogists web calendar of events.
Finally I would like to thank the wonderful people at Inside History Magazine for their assistance in creating our new logo and website. You can also follow them on Facebook Inside History Magazine. They have been incredibly patient and I hope readers will also be patient as I learn my way around this new website.
Between now and August we will be busy promoting NFHM so everyone knows it is on. Please help us spread the word, we really do want 2019 to be the best year ever. Stay tuned.
