Roger Underwood is a forester, historian and writer who has devoted his life to forest and bushfire management. A graduate of UWA, the University of Washington, and the Australian Forestry School, he worked as a forester in the southwest of WA for over 40 years. Most of this time was spent in the karri forest, but it also included a period as the Forests Department’s District Manager at Mundaring Weir in the 1960s. Roger has devoted himself to capturing and recording forestry and bushfire history.
Roger will discuss the contribution of the Mundaring forests to the famous Goldfields Water Supply.
“To a large degree, forestry and bushfire history has fallen off the radar in WA,” Roger said, “yet there have been many magnificent achievements and wonderful people, with fascinating stories to tell. I am trying to ensure they are recorded before being lost for ever.”
